Product of the Month - Yates Target

Feb POM

Yates Product of the Month for February 2010 is Target, a very useful general garden insecticide
that treats a wide range of pests on vegetables, fruit and ornamentals.

Whitefly is one of the most annoying summer pests. It’s difficult to control, too, because the tiny, moth-
like pests fly up and disperse in a cloud of white whenever they’re disturbed. But Target’s double
action – it works by contact and is translaminar (which means it moves from side to side within the leaf)
– makes it much easier to achieve effective control of whitefly and other hard-to-get-at pests.

Many types of scale insects breed during summer and, in the beginning, the baby scales (called
crawlers) move around the plant looking for a good place to settle down and begin their sap-sucking
life. Applying Target at this time of year gives good control of scale crawlers on certain fruits and
ornamentals, thereby stopping the crawlers in their tracks before they get to their damaging adult stage.

Target also takes care of other sap suckers like aphids and mealy bugs, and kills leaf-eating caterpillars
(especially the leafroller that ties leaves into a protective shelter and eats them away from within).

Target is available in a 250mL concentrate container and mixes at an economical rate of 5mL per litre
of water. It can be used to control pests on citrus, grapes, avocados, beans, tomatoes, cucurbits
(melon and pumpkin family), brassicas (cabbage family) and ornamentals like roses.

Always read the label carefully and apply Target strictly as directed, paying particular attention to the
withholding period (the time that must pass between application of the insecticide and harvest of
crops).

I appreciate the forward planning especially with spraying, I enjoy planning from gardening books and magazines and before I know it I am too late for the action! A productive season thanks to Yates newsletters.
