Sphaceloma fawcettii var. scabiosa

What is Lemon Scab

Also called Verrucosis or Citrus Scab, this fungal disease causes raised roughened warty lesions to form on the outside of the fruit. Although the inside of the fruit is unaffected, the disease should be controlled, because it gradually reduces the vigour of the tree. Damp, cool weather encourages the disease spores to spread. It’s best to adopt a preventative approach to control Verrucosis, with a regular spray program.

Citrus are very hungry trees; regular feeding with Yates Thrive Citrus & Fruit Granular Plant Food helps them withstand the weakening effect of Verrucosis.

During hot and dry weather, it also helps to water deeply and regularly around the root zone to help your citrus resist the disease – trees suffering from water stress are more susceptible to it.

Symptoms

Rough patches also appear on the stems and leaves, and fruit drop often occurs.
