Hello, my name is Jen and I am an aspara-holic.
Asparagus is my all time favourite vegetable - hands down. We eat them solidly from the moment they hit the shelves, until they dissappear around Janurary. Tim is not as fond of them as I, but if he is away, that is all I will eat for dinner.... maybe with a poached egg.
I planted a few crowns last year, but they were lost in my polyculture jungle - this year I have created a dedicated asparagus bed and transfered the spidery crowns into a specially prepared bed, with loads of mushroom compost and seaweed. I know that for the plants to get a good start, I need to let these delicious looking shoots turn into ferns for a couple of years.....It is torture!
Especially when I haven't seen them in the supermarket yet.
