We have been in our house for 2 months. Having moved from a large rural garden to an 800 square meter section I have had to be a bit creative about how we are going to fit everything in.
The section had 2 raised beds that were half full if grass clippings and old top soil.
Since moving in I have added compost to the beds and filled them with vege seedlings.
I have added a compost bin and worm farm, built a chook house and run, planted out flower beds and set up some perennial beds with rhubarb, asparagus, perennial leeks and sorrel.
This weekend has seen us constructing the tunnel house ready for tomatoes.
I have another couple of raised beds to set up and will try to find a clear space for some potatoes.
The previous owners had used weedmat all around the vege garden area and covered this with river stones. I have cleared these and pulled up the weedmat. We intend to reuse the stones in some paths.
It is very much a work in progress and we will learn a lot this summer as to where gets sun and wind etc.
There is a Pittosporum hedge on the west fence which will need to be removed and mulched so we can espalier some fruit trees. I have an apple and am planning a double grafted pear and a grape.
