Seed Saving

It's not warm here in Wellington at the moment, even the greenhouse a little chilly!  That will slow some of the seeds sown over the weekend, which means it's going to look this full with seed trays for a while yet!!

Who else here saves their seeds?   I'm a big fan of saving seeds especially sunflowers, sweetpea, cosmos, calendula, marigolds, hollyhock, lupin.....the list goes on!

Vegetables I haven't been so good at with saving seeds - but Herbs like Basil, Coriander and Dill, I've had success with.   And corn - corn is pretty easy!  I will try and let one plant go to seed with each Veggie planting this year!

In these pictures are Hollyhock and Cosmos from saved seed. Typically I'd direct sow, but the weather is so iffy I decided to test whether these seeds would strike, and clearly the question has been answered....definitely no issue with viability of last summers seeds.

Next step put together some medium to mix the seeds in to make spreading easier.... and hopefully I'll have summer gardens filled with pretty flowers!

Oh I hope true spring turns up soon!!
