Gardener:Gardening with the Dillons

Date:08 Oct 2021

Blog Type:Vegetables, Flowers

I have finally learnt and stuck to my guns.

My greenhouse is chocka with seedlings and summer goodness, all busting to get out into the garden, but <sigh> it's Wellington and anything planted before Labour Weekend has little chance of doing much.

So I wait.

I've got a good mix of flowers growing - Cosmos, Hollyhock, Zinnia's, Lupin, Dahlia (from seed and tubers), sunflowers (they have a while to wait yet!), sweet pea, salvia, aster, foxglove (I have 2nd year foxglove in the garden Whoop Whoop!)

I also did a mix of seeds/seed raising mix and have sprinkled it in the gardens. Direct sowing too early often isn't too successful for me, so I'll do this mix again November and sprinkle and hope!

For Veggies - all the summer goodies are here, but some will stay in the greenhouse longer - and I need to hurry hubby up with my glasshouse so some can grow inside!   I have cucumber, zuchinni, tomatoes, chillies, peppers, corn, beetroot, spinach, successions of mesclun/rocket (multi sown), mini cabbage, sprouting broccoli, lettuce (direct sown already), celery, and a few herbs - Basil, Coriander, Thyme, Parsley. I've managed to grow Basil all year, by having it in the kitchen and sprinkling seed in between grown plants...

Phew... what a list?  I dying for the Tomato season, especially if I have my glasshouse! I'm also just really looking forward to lush and full garden beds - full of food and flowers and all my pollinators!

When do you all start planting out for your locations?
