I had seen the white butterfly flitting about for over a month now. Sometimes landing on the greens and flitting off as I swipe at it or try and chase it down with a hose. Both amusing to passers by I imagine.
Usually in Wellington the weather I'm sure keeps the bugs at bay, but this year, today specifically I took my eye from my lush Big Blue Glasshouse and checked out the brassicas......to find I hadn't been as attentive as I should have been the past week or so.....
I hadn't sprayed them. Don't tend to use sprays, so these aren't a surprise. How many was the surprise! I picked off SIX caterpillars that had clearly had a party on this red cabbage seedling. Might have to look at the organic sprays. I tend to prefer not to use them on veggies, but it could be a full time job chucking green caterpillars if this is the beginning.
To spray, or not to spray??? Whats the answer to my problem? What do you use for white butterfly/caterpillars?
