Often when it comes to gardening we talk about a beautiful day in the garden and generally it's a sunny day.
When it comes to planting out, I look for "bad" weather not good weather. What I mean by that, is that I look for a good 2-5 days of light rain and clouds. I don't generally plant in torrential rain though!
I cleared our bank of most of the weeds about a week ago but it was just too sunny to plant. This bank is our wildflower bank. It's had weeds for decades before we moved in so it's a battle but eventually I hope the wildflower seeds will overtake the dandelion.
Each Spring I grow trays of wildflowers and then clear the weeds and plant clumps. By planting when rain is expected, it gives the plants a chance to get rooted. Then as the sun comes out and the soil starts to dry the roots follow the water and go deeper.
I use the same method with our veges. The theory is that the deeper the roots, the more resilient the plant and the less I need to water.
I don't water the bank at all so these wildflowers are on their own now.
