Ciagua, Slipper Gourd from South America, is a vine that seems resist all our local pests. No disease issues.

The rampant vines are quite prolific. The fruit is eaten raw or cooked. I prefer it raw, fresh in salads and not looked at cooking it at all.

The fruit needs to be picked young to ear whole as the seeds are quite hard and large, quite pre historic looking.

The flavour is very cucumber like, with a hint of green bean. This is a great backup crop for cucumbers for salad use.
