This winter has been a whirlwind of busyness and not in the garden. I have been out and about giving talks and running workshops and all the preparation required has kept me from the garden and then as fate would have it – the free time I did have was winter being winter with weather unsuitable for gardening.
Well, that is all about to change – soon – when I get back from my latest commitment. We are off tomorrow for a nice cruise around the South Pacific for 10 days. Which sounds lovely, but I have to sing for my supper and give 4 talks on gardening. It kind of takes a bit of a shine off the thought of it being a holiday and makes me look forward to it all being over – well the speaking bit.
And in the meantime, I have started my early seedlings and they are currently sitting on a heat mat, and I have strict instructions for the teen lad on how to care for them while I’m away. I worry that I’ll miss seeing those first green shoots, that they won’t be taken off the heat once they pop up, and will they be ok if he moves them to the greenhouse – as per the instructions. It feels like the first time we left the kids with the babysitter. But I need to trust him – I’ve taught him well over the years and the list is thorough! It’s only 10 days and if things go wrong I can start more seed.
Once I get back I will be able to completely immerse myself in all things garden and get my hands dirty. It is going to be fabulous, and I look forward to every last moment I can revitalise the garden for a new growing season!
Oh – and without saying anything – there are a couple of somethings to look out for:
If you aren’t following me on Facebook (Sarah The Gardener), you might want to keep an eye out from the 20th of August as there is something super exciting happening – but for now my lips are sealed.
And - We have been so pleased to have you all hang out here over the last few seasons, it has been so nice to see how your gardens are going but don’t stop now because… well I can’t say much at this point but… there will be some exciting things ahead!
And on that note – I need to go and finish my packing, and I’ll see you when I get back! I hope the weather is everything we need it to be while I’m away.
Happy gardening and as always – if you want to get in touch leave a comment below. (I’ll probably be doing a bit of ‘computer gardening’ at sea.)
