My little supermarket

A couple of months ago, maybe less, I sowed some lettuce and spinach seed. As always I sowed too many and gave some seedlings away but still kept a reasonable amount. I planted them out into the vegie garden and now have a constant supply for a mesclun salad.

We have been eating these in salads for the past two weeks - I just harvest enough for a meal and they keep producing. They'll probably continue to be delicious for another 2 - 3 weeks  at least until they start bolting and I will move on to the next lot which I have just planted out.

We eat salad with our meals 5 nights out of 7 in summer and when you don't have to buy supermarket lettuce - picking your own is a nice saving.

When you can add your own radishes, spring onions, chives, herbs, oranges, strawberries, snow peas, carrots, beetroot and soon tomatoes and cucumbers - the savings get even better.
