Before I dart out the door, I thought I would do a quick little share. We have tomatoes. Finally. The perseverance certainly paid off. And boy was it worth the wait.
Over the past week, we have been picking cherry tomatoes and today some of our larger heirloom varieties were ready (from my garden with the suspected blight which we have managed to control). I also have enough gherkins to make a relish. I am going to have to sort that out tonight after BMX as the rest of the week, and the weekend is completely full. So while the weather hasn't played ball, and while prices continue to rise, I am somewhat relieved. It has definitely been the hardest growing season I have experienced, but I can take some positives out of it, as I have learned along the way.
As an added bonus, on the weekend I noticed the rockmelon plant had died off and there were a few teeth marks in it. I was about to chuck it to the chickens, and thought I'd slice it first. A quick removal of one end, and it was perfect.
And as we prep for yet more bad weather this weekend, I was somewhat relieved to get a phone call from our drainlayer this morning, and they are starting to prep for our work to begin. Fingers crossed it solves some of our issues.
I have also included my first-ever hibiscus flower.
