This spring continues to be tumultuous. I can hardly believe a couple of weeks ago I’d shed my warm clothes and was working in the garden in shorts and a tee shirt. I’m back to having a beanie almost permanently on my head and the thickest socks back on my feet! We may be frost free here, but the wind is almost more harmful, so I will wait for more settled weather before planting out or I’ll need to put some protection up so they can get the best of both worlds – roots in the soil and a greenhouse type cloche over the top – a 3L juice bottle with the bottom cut off is perfect for this job. I think I’ll need to stock up on juice and get the family to drink their fill!
In the greenhouse I think I have finished sowing seeds. Some things haven’t popped up, but I’ve resigned myself to this and am deciding what to do with the gaps they will leave.
The transplanting is underway as well. Even though some of the plants are screaming at me to be moved along into bigger pots, I’m just doing it in daily batches, or it will take forever. The daily transplant decision is based on who is in the most need of an upgrade. I set up a production line of waiting to be transplanted, transplanted and soaking in seaweed tonic to help them settle themselves in the soil and get the added benefit of the tonic.
The garden itself is getting there, if only the weeds would stop growing! I’m trying to stay on top of what I’ve already done so it feels like I’m chasing my tale. But I’d rather whip out little weeds often than get to the end of weeding the entire garden only to have to start all over again with a new weedy nightmare.
