Several weeks ago we called into a local roadside stall and picked up a bale of peastraw to put around our brassica under their white tunnels. We had some left over so popped it around part of the flower border as well.

There were two types of bales to choose from - with or without seeds. The bales with seeds were five dollars cheaper and, ever the economist, I chose that one.

We have pea plants shooting up all over the garden! I'm not sure we'll get actual peas from them but I am harvesting the tips for our salads - they are crunchy and delicious - and they'll be adding heaps of nitrogen back to the soil.

Cheaper peastraw + salad ingredient + soil nutrition = Win!
