I didn’t realise just how much I’d miss the Vegie Growing Challenge. It has been a part of every spring since 2010! Each morning I’d get up and travel around the country visiting all of the gardens and chat with all the gardeners and draw inspiration and motivation from what everyone else was doing before heading out into my garden.
These days I’m a little lost in my mornings. It is still a little too chilly to head out there straight away and I stare blankly at my computer screen feeling like I’m forgetting to do something…
This season I have decided to be intentional and mindful in the garden and not to allow stress and panic to creep in with the ‘need’ to do everything. Gardens are forgiving and planting windows are wide open. There is no hurry to get things done. I am determined to fill the garden with joy and pleasure and not turn it into a cruel task master.
As a result, I’ve be sowing my seeds in small batches each day and tackling the weeds in a slow and steady approach, stopping when my podcast ends, or I reach an imaginary marker on the ground. It is ok not to finish a task in one go. There is plenty of time, especially now that I have all this free time since the end of the challenge.
So, whatever you are doing out there, remember gardening is supposed to be an activity that reduces stress, not one that adds to it. Slow down to the rhythm of nature, take breaks often and just appreciate all you have achieved already and admire the beauty around you. Don’t be in a hurry to get things in the ground, even if you’ve seen people on the internet do it.
Have a wonderful growing season, and if you want to still post here it is ok, we’re still checking it out and reading things.
Miss you all.
