This last week of sun has really seen the warm weather plants burst into life. I feel like I can almost see the pumpkin vines crawling accross the ground..
This year we are growing Yates Hybrid Grey Crown. We grew it last year and it is delicious and stores well. I think this is going to be our main pumpkin crop moving forward.
I'm intrigued at how two seeds from the same packet grow so differently. We have two plants that started the same size when planting out. They are planted in the same trench with same soil etc, about 1m apart. One is 3 times bigger than the other. Just shows that each plant is semi unique.
Our kamokamo are starting to form. This is another family favourite. We like to harvest it a little early when it's more starchy and air fry it like chips. Delicious with aoili.
Haven and her friend went out into the garden to get some strawberries. Our biggest haul yet. I'm keeping a record of the harvest this year to justify my garden spending. To date we have harvested about 20 punnets. At $4 per punnet that's $80 although a lot were harvested when it was close to $10 a punnet at the supermarket!
It's days like today that I feel like all the hard work has paid off.
