I really do love this time of the year.
It's so incredibly satisfying to wander around the garden in the morning and select the vegetable/salad ingredients for the evening meal and right now there is plenty to choose from.
Tonight we had home made beef and pork kebabs, our sweet corn and new potatoes (grown in pots from a couple of random potatoes gone to seed at the end of last year).
This was paired with a salad of our own lettuce, cherry tomatoes, spring onions and Lebanese cucumber with some dates, walnuts and an amazing blue cheese bought from a factory shop in Eltham that we stopped at on our way home from a night in New Plymouth yesterday.
We have had three of our grandchildren to stay (ages 3 - 7) for the past week. Thus it has been a bit quiet on the blog front. I've managed to get a few homegrown vegetables in to them - some of the hits were beans in tempura batter, cucumber and carrot in homemade sushi and zucchini in noodle stirfry.
We took them to see the Festival of Lights at Pukekura Park in New Plymouth for the night during the week - if you get the chance to visit - it is absolutely amazing, but finishes next week. Put it on your "must do" list for next year.
Some friends called in for a wine early this evening and I was able to send them off with a bag of cucumbers, gherkins, cherry tomatoes and beans... it's so lovely to share produce with people you love.
I do love January and hope yours is being just as productive.
