Seedlings and Sampling

With birthday celebrations finally over, it was a much more relaxed day here. A wee bit of baking, and a quick check on the seedlings was about all the energy I could muster up though.

As the temperature increased over the day, I was pleasantly surprised to see a few more seedlings through by this afternoon. My Sweet Chilli (a large/long/and very sweet chilli that I saved seeds from after purchasing one at the local growers market) and my Californian Pepper are now through. I also have a few more tomatoes, snake beans and I think I can see a watermelon about to break the surface.

We also continue to work our way through the garden.  With an abundance of eggs at the moment, a lot of recipes are based around them. This asparagus and feta tart (with spinach and spring onion) is now my new favourite. With the eggs, veggies and my homemade feta, it was a very economical dish to make. If you have the space, or even a container, I highly recommend planting some. I pondered over it for years and then came to regret it.  What stopped me was the kids eating the berries when they were little (only on the female plants when they fern). I am glad I finally got around to it a couple of years ago. Fresh asparagus was a rare treat for us. Now we are cooking with it at least once a week.
