While today started of a bit gloomy, the sun was shining by this afternoon. So much so that the kids actually came home and stuck the air conditioning on. That is a first time in a long time.

On the garden front, with the winds dropped completely, the polytunnel went back out this morning. Unfortunately though, I have lost 3 of the 9 jalapeños. Thankfully I do still have 3 spares. I have also had 3 cucumbers curl up their toes. The wind and rain, followed by a dramatic increase was too much in the end. Thankfully I do have some spares of those too. My popcorn does look a bit wind beaten, but I am confident they will come right. Same with the sunflowers. They have been sulking a bit, but i did notice this morning that their leaves are bigger, and they look like they are about to start standing tall again (they are only about 15cm and still skinny so still susceptible to the wind). The beans, gherkins and 3 other cucumbers are thankfully  showing signs of new leaves. I will also need to keep an eye on the onions as I did notice a few outer leaves had rotted on a few of them.  Hopefully it's just a case of being blown around/snapped off and not something setting in. I will have a proper look in the morning, tidy up, and spray with copper to be on the safe side.

I also have my first strawberry starting to ripen, and despite the wind, we haven't lost all our blossoms off our berries (last year we lost our plums due to bad timing of storms and flowering). I was stoked to see a number of bumblebees out in force this evening doing what they do best.

The dahlias are now almost all through....well 20 of the 30 in the garden, and the majority of the border dahlias in pots.

And my green grape, although it was blown around somewhat, it has started to right itself. This is perhaps the plant I am most proud of in the garden as it was grown from cuttings only 2 and half years ago. We got 8 bunches from it last year, and this year it looks prolific.
