It is hot out in the garden today. I'm suppose to be building mud kitchen orders but..priorities.. The weather report says it's only 22 degrees here in the King Country, I'm not looking forward to 30+ if that's the case 😅. The glass house is sitting at just shy of 40! can only just read the gauge as the tomatoes have almost completely over grown it now. I suspect it must be time to get my shade cover up over it before everything starts cooking. I'm also waiting on the electrician to come put a PowerPoint in so I can run a fan through summer and hopefully heating in winter this year.
So I finally got my kumara in this morning, I had to sacrifice a huge silverbeet plant that was taking over most of the bed I wanted to use. I figured I eat a lot more kumara than silverbeet so it had to be done. The slips are currently being shaded by an umbrella to protect from the heat until they establish themselves. I even got my compass out to find north and point the 'J's' the right way. Fingers crossed for a bumper crop.
Walking around I noticed my first apple cucumber just starting to form so that is very exciting. My sons not tried apple cucumber yet and I have a feeling he might just like them. I bought a bunch of weed mat type pegs so I can hook them over the vines of cucumbers and pumpkins and train them in the direction I want them to grow, which is bordering my garden area. Seems to be working a treat so far. In the glass house I checked in on my egg plant which has emerged quite a lot more now compared to the other day, same with the chillies and there's a few more cucumbers almost ready too. Everything grows so fast this time of year, except my garlic, that does not seem to be doing that well. Hoping it comes away and we at least get a few out of the 60 odd I planted. Nothing beats home grown garlic and we use a lot of it!
