1. Use a nice big pot – if it's too small, it'll dry out extra fast and will need to be watered a lot.

  2. Don't fill your pots with soil from the garden, because it soaks up too much water and stays wet all the time. If you use a good-quality potting mix, like Yates Premium Potting Mix, the water will drain away much better.

  3. Use a watering can with a 'rose' to water gently. Don't blast your plant out of the pot with the garden hose!

  4. Don’t let the base of the pot sit in water. If you do, lots of extra water will suck up into the pot. Plants don't like having a wet bottom!

  5. Remember to fertilise your pots. This keeps the potting mix topped up with nutrients (plant food). Every week during the growing season, add some Yates Thrive Fish Blood & Bone Plant Food or Yates Thrive All Purpose Liquid Plant Food into the watering can, while you are watering.

  6. Put on some gloves before you touch potting mix, and wash your hands afterwards.
