Much like humans, plants that are exposed to intense sunlight and UV radiation can become sunburnt, especially when soil moisture is low.
Positioning vulnerable plants in full afternoon sun, along with poor fertility soil, can contribute to the severity of the damage.
Damaged or burnt flowers, foliage or fruit that appears after periods of hot weather, especially when the plant becomes dehydrated.
Leaves that are most exposed to the sun will be the worst affected. Damage can begin as bleached, silvery areas that turn dry, brown and crispy.
Fruiting vegetables can develop sunscald, which shows up as bleached, discolored, or blistered patches on the side exposed to the sun.
If they can't rehydrate afterwards, prolonged sun exposure during hot weather can be fatal to plants.
