To celebrate our 140th year in the seed business, we're excited to bring back some old, old favourites from our archives!
True oregano (AKA Greek Oregano) is said to have been created by the love goddess Aphrodite as a symbol of joy. Its bold and aromatic flavour has long been used in Greek, Italian and Spanish cooking. Perfect for pizza, pasta sauce or use fresh or dried to season meat and soup.
Chefs adore true oregano as it has a more assertive flavour than standard oregano. For cooking, traditionally the entire stems are harvested and dried for storage. The dried leaves are crumbled into the dish straight from the stem. The taste of dried oregano is most intense when stems are harvested while they're in flower.
Sow direct where they are to grow. Cover with Yates Black Magic® Seed Raising Mix, firm down and keep moist. Thin seedlings to 30 cm apart.
Choose a sunny, well-drained position. Keep well watered and free from weeds. Ideal for planting in tubs or large pots. Once seedlings have established, feed weekly with Yates Thrive® Natural Fish Seaweed + Plant Food. Protect from snails and slugs.
Great to grow with other herbs including rosemary, thyme, parsley and basil.
Store in a cool dry place away from direct Sunlight. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
