I'm one of those people that always likes to give things a go and always looking for garden projects to do with our daughter.
During the last lockdown we watched a youtube video on bug motels and the guy seemed pretty excited about them so we thought we would give it ago.
Apparently they attract beneficial insects like solitary bees who lay their eggs in the holes/tunnels.
We used pine from an untreated pallet and collected some bamboo and branches.
Haven did the writing at the bottom and I burnt it in.
The bottom section is lined with wool from one of those foodbox thermal inserts. It has some breathing holes. I was taking a long shot that a bumble bee might make it their home but I don't think that will happen. I believe they like shaded spots.
So far all it has done is look good and I'm keen to hear if anyone else has one and if it is inhabited. If it doesn't work at least it's a nice feature so it wasn't a waste of time.
