Garden Structures

I love the idea of growing things up and in interesting ways so I thought I would have a go at creating some different structures in the garden.

After a few attempts I manged to create a bamboo tepee type structure. There is a knack to these, and you need a good wind to show you if you have the knack! So far, I have some snow peas growing up one of the tepees and my plan is to try and grow tomatoes up the other one I have built. Not sure if this will work but there is only one way to find out!

I managed to find a basic archway on Trademe that was cheap as chips and have started to grow some Cobra runner beans up this. I am hoping this will create a beautiful bean archway and focal point for the garden.  The local slugs got the news out and only half the of directly sown seeds survived so out came Yates Blitzem to send them on their way.

I have created another structure using two pieces of metal trellis to form an ‘A’ frame to grow cucumbers up. I have not tried this before either so will be interesting to see if the cucumbers are happy to grow up the trellis. Apparently growing your cucumber on a trellis guarantees less disease and damage and an abundant harvest. Sounds good to me and time will tell!

I would love to know what type of structures others have used with success in the garden!

Happy Gardening everyone!
