I'm super excited that the Yates veggie growing challenge is back again and really excited about the changes. Being able to continue to follow fellow gardeners after the close of the challenge is great because often our gardens are only just starting to be fruitful and then the challenges ends.

While I am excited about the start of a new season, I'm also saddened by the loss of our fellow gardener Carol Jane who has had a profound impact on me over the years. While I never met her in person, It feels like a loss of a family member as she mothered so many of us during the many challenges.

For those who I have never met before who are joining for the first time, I'm James. I live in Titirangi, Auckland with my wife Rochelle, 6 year old daughter Haven and mother in Law Maria (oh and our dog Indy and two mice Rose and Poppy). We have a small cross lease property which we moved into just under two years ago.

Gardening is my sanctuary. For me it is the one place where I can destress and feel myself again. While our property is small, I have managed to squeeze in a mini orchard with about 40 fruit trees, berrie bushes, vines etc. I know, I definitely went overboard!

For those that were in the challenge last year, you will likely remember me harping on about vegepods which we heavily invested in and do not regret one bit. They will feature again this year.

Looking forward to another growing season and catching up with fellow gardeners from past years as well as meeting new gardeners. For those who are joining for the first time, you will love this place. This is one of the few places on the internet where you can share your passion and have others encourage you and support you along the way.

Wishing everyone a very productive and enjoyable season.
