Blog Type:Mini Challenge - Meet your Neighbours, Vegetables

I have been a part time release teacher for some years now.  This year I've been working really hard to introduce a gardening club.  It has had it's fair share of diffilculties - 2 lockdowns a pretty major one.  I reached out to a few different companies and got this epic parcel sent to us by Yates.

The kids were so excited on opening and have been planning how we will use them all.

Currently I have set up a school wide Great Spring Growing Challenge.  They choose which seeds they want and can either plant with me or at home and then produce a diary of how their seeds grow.

Sign up has been for 2 days and currently have had 50 join which I think is a fabulous number.  I have scrounged around and bought lots of neat prizes so am hoping to get at least half of those bring diaries back.

It always shocks me a little when I am helping children in the school garden that many of them have no idea, they don't know their potatoes grow in the ground or the peas come from a little seed.  We have been doing different planting or experiments in busy parts of the shool grounds so more wander over to see what we are doing and get involved.

I am hoping through my passion for gardening I can encourage more and more of the tamariki to join in and see what all the fuss is about. .... So thank you Yates once again for your continued support to NZers to get us all out there growing.
