We still have six large jars of last years beetroot in the pantry. We love home preserved beetroot and have it with a meal at least once a week.
However I did decide this year that I probably won't need to bottle as many as I have in previous years as we are just not getting through them. So I sowed a few punnets of Yates cylindra which were planted out in the garden a couple of months ago.
Beetroot is such an attractive plant to grow in the vegetable garden and has the added bonus of small young leaves you can add to your salads. Today I harvested our little square of beetroot and I'm pretty sure I will get another couple of jars to add to our stocks.
I will definitely do another sowing though. I love beetroot roasted and also grated raw with carrot for a salad.
