A Wet Start to Spring

In Northland, we've had a pretty wet start to Spring. The showers continued consistently throughout the day today. Yesterday, we had heavy rain for most of the day. I decided I'd make use of that time and finally finish sorting out my seed storage containers.

When there was a break in the showers, I got outside to get some weeding done in the large front garden. Once that's all sorted, compost will be added. I'm planning on turning it into a dahlia bed with a mix of cottage flowers.

Over the years, I've realised how important it is to also grow flowers for the bees and butterflies. So as well as growing some old fashioned favourites e.g. Snap dragons for Luke, we make sure there's lots of variety for the bees as well. I'll do a separate post on this at some point.

The silver lining to our warmer temps and all this rain, is that the vegetables are loving it. I did notice a few white butterflies today though. Hopefully I get to my broccoli before they do!
