EXPECTED, BUT UNWANTED VISITOR

This morning I noticed that the Cabbage Aphid have arrived.

That was the cue that I needed. The brassica bed has now been all but emptied.

I couldn’t quite bring myself to pull out the biggest purple flowering broccoli – even if the florets are minute. Have also left a broccolini on the edge as I just want to see what happens … will it seed easily? Or be devoured by cabbage aphid before it sets seed.

I harvested as much kale as I could and all the little wee brussels sprouts. There were also lots of tasty looking side shoots off the broccolini, so I harvested those flowers and all.

The lupin seeds have been sprinkled on top.  I really need to chop and drop the lupin in the neighbouring bed – was supposed to do it before it flowered!
