I talked about my temptation to tickle a wee while ago and earlier this week the temptation got too much.
I dished up our dinner of schnitzel, salad, mushrooms and new potatoes in butter and finely chopped parsley and got a very accusing look from SH.
"You tickled didn't you?" he asked
"Yes, I tickled." I admitted
When we had finished eating our meal I asked if the tickling was worth it. I got a satisfied smile, which said it all.
There is something incredibly special about the first new potatoes of the season and these were delicious. I have tickled even further and tonight took a pot full of my new babies around to a friends for a birthday barbecue along with a few sprigs of mint. Everyone loved them.
The picture is of this years potato patch. I'm excited about seeing what is under there when we dig them all up late December.
If you're not sure what I'm on about - "tickling potatoes" is a term for gently digging with your fingers in to the side of your potato mound and easing out a few potatoes that you can feel in there. You don't pull out any of the plants, you just gently ease a few of those tasty taties out to give you enough for a meal and leave the rest of the crop to keep on growing.
I highly recommend it.
