This is year 2 of trying to establish a wildflower bank at our property. Last year we cleared the bank and sowed the seeds direct but I think there were several million dandelion seeds lying dormant which sprouted at the same time and smothered most of the wildflowers.
They may have won the battle but they shall not win the war. This year Haven and I planted trays with the wildflowers and have let them get a little established. We may have slighly oversown the seeds.
Today as we have had rain, I cleared the dandelion and split the wildflowers into bunches and planted them out. These will be left to their own devices so it was important to plant when the weather was poor to allow time for the roots to settle before the sun hits.
About 60% of the bank is done and I have two more trays to go. This will be survival of the fittest as unlike the vege patch, these plants will need to fend for themselves over the coming season.
