All good things must come to an end, but to be honest the end of the Spring Vegie Growing Challenge is never a good thing.   The gardens are just getting going and the community is so tight knit right now…  we’ve got something special going on!

This Friday 9th Dec 2022– at the end of the day, is the last day for the official posts to be considered for the prizes up for grabs.    But the doors are staying wide open, and you are welcome to continue to chit chat, which does make a change from the early days of the Vegie Growing Challenge where you would have to wait a whole 9 months to catch up with old friends again.

So, while you chat amongst yourselves, the team at Yates will be doing the deliberations and deciding the winners.  It won’t be easy as you have all been such wonderful contributors this season.   The aim will be to get back to you with exciting news well before Christmas to add to the festive cheer.  So check back here often for the announcements.

To be honest it still doesn’t feel like the end, the weather is still not as it should be at this time of year for me in my garden.  It feels like midspring and I’m still starting my day wearing a scarf!  The weekend was lovely and hinted at what it should be like but we’re back to gloomy again with big black rain clouds on the weekly forecast.  The extended forecast isn’t much better….  I’m hoping it improves before Christmas because I don’t feel very Christmassy and therefore there isn’t the feels that make me want to go and do my Christmas shopping.

But the harvest is slowly coming in – I’ll be doing my first meagre jar of gherkins with half a dozen good sized ones – not too big and not too small. And we’re currently inundated with salad, but there are more on the way, so I’m pleased about that.   It is nice the wind has eased so I can gently plod about in the garden tending to its needs, which is the best way to do it rather than racing out to do what you can before the weather changes.

Oh and I almost forgot - this week's free seeds go to Northland Backyard Gardener!  Congratulations!

Enjoy this last week in the challenge, happy gardening and as always – if you want to get in touch leave a comment below.
