We live near the South Pole - almost - we are located between Lake Hawea and Lake Wanaka, at about 350m above sea level. I give you this information so that you might better understand my eagerness to get growing. Every year I start my seeds in August, with the moon calendar as my guide.  As you can see from the photo these root crops were sown on 17th August - I know, really early but hey, slow they may be but they look really healthy. This photo was taken today. It's a bit annoying that the weeds grow 10 times faster than the seeds! But my vegetable gardening challenge has begun and I couldn't be happier. Most of my above-ground seedlings are still in their cells, most have been potted on from the seed-raising mix into a yummy homemade mix to support their growth and they are tucked up in the sunny garage to keep them warm as the temps drop overnight to 20deg C. I watch with envy the northern growers who are harvesting already, we are still eating the crops that overwintered. Cavolo Nero, silverbeet, sprouting broccoli (just finished) leeks, and yams. The garden has been kind to us, I've rewarded it by adding goodness to the rotation beds, talking nicely to the seedlings, and crossing my very grubby gardeners' fingers for a great season. Grow slowly everyone, enjoy the process, and thank you for reading to this point. Ali
