Solution

Destroy infected fruit. Remove flaking bark from tree trunks. Some larvae can be trapped by placing cardboard around trunk. Spray with Yates Success Ultra.

Wait for dry conditions, then remove affected branches and foliage and burn all infected plant parts. Sterilise tools between cuts, to prevent the disease spreading.

European Canker

A fungal disease of apple and pear trees. Lesions form on branches, ruining fruit and causing wilting and dieback. Lesions develop into large, sunken dead cankers.

Solution

Wait for dry conditions, then remove affected branches or cut out and burn all infected plant parts. For larger cankers, use a knife or chisel to slice out the infected tissue. Sterilise tools between cuts, to prevent the disease spreading.
