A superb deep green pickling cucumber, Eureka is also versatile enough for fresh eating. Delicious sliced into a salad, but Eureka really shines when picked young to make pickled gherkins - brined with peppercorns, mustard seeds and some fresh dill or French tarragon for the finishing touch. A vigorous grower that delivers great yields and is resistant to a wide range of diseases.
For early sowing, raise in pots of Yates® Black Magic® Seed Raising Mix in a well-lit, protected spot. Transplant after 3-4 weeks. For direct sowing press 4-5 seeds into mounds of moist soil 40cm apart. Later thin to the two strongest plants. Plants can also be grown next to a supporting trellis or tripod (approx 1.5m tall).
Grow in a sunny, well-drained position. Prepare soil by adding Yates® Thrive® Natural Blood & Bone. Water regularly (to avoid bitter fruit) at plant base and apply Yates® Thrive® Flower & Fruit Soluble Fertiliser every two weeks. Protect from snails and slugs.
Store in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
