With stunning blue-green leaves and solid white stems, this frost resistant variety is shorter than many other leeks. A mild, sweet flavour with a hint of onion makes them a great addition to soups, casseroles, risotto and pasta.
Sow direct where they are to grow or in trays of Yates Black Magic Seed Raising Mix. Firm down and keep moist. Thin out to 10-15cm apart when about 10-15cm tall and as thick as a pencil.
Grow in fertile soil in a well-drained, sunny position. Prior to planting mix Yates Thrive Natural Blood & Bone into the soil. Apply Yates Thrive All Purpose Granular Plant Food regularly and keep well watered. Make successive sowings every few weeks. Protect from snails and slugs.
Great companion plant for carrots, celery, onions, parsnip and strawberries.
