Forget Me Nots (Myosotis sylvatica) have delightful profusions of dainty blooms in vibrant shades of blue. These annual flowers are easy to grow and ideal for edges, borders, to fill beddings in cottage style gardens and as ground covers.
How to grow forget me not in a garden
- Choose a spot in the garden that receives full sun to part shade.
- Prepare the planting area well by digging in Yates Dynamic Lifter Organic Plant Food.
- Sow seeds directly where they are to grow and lightly cover with Yates Black Magic Seed Raising Mix. Firm down and water well.
- After sowing cover with a sheet of newspaper or cardboard to limit the light to the seeds.
- Water gently and keep moist through germination period. After germination remove newspaper or cardboard.
- Once seedlings are approximately 5 cm, mulch with organic mulch, such as bark chips, woodchip or pea straw.
- Feed during the growing and flowering season with Yates Thrive Rose & Flower Granular Plant Food. TIP: For an added boost apply Yates Thrive Roses & Flowers Liquid Plant Food.
How to grow forget me not in a pot
- Choose a pot at least 200mm wide and deep. Position in full sun to part shade.
- Fill the chosen pots with quality potting mix, such as Yates Premium Potting Mix.
- Plant directly into the pot by pressing the seeds lightly into the surface of the pot. Lightly cover with Yates Black Magic Seed Raising Mix.
- After sowing cover with a sheet of newspaper or cardboard to limit the light to the seeds.
- Water gently and keep moist through germination period. After germination remove newspaper or cardboard.
- Feed every 1 to 2 weeks with Yates Thrive Roses & Flowers Liquid Plant Food. TIP: For an added boost apply Yates Thrive Natural Fish & Seaweed+ Plant Food Concentrate.
Growing tips
- Flower colours become further intensified if plants are grown in light shade.
- Forget Me Nots can suffer from fungal issues and spotting. To prevent these issues, apply water to the base of plant close to the soil avoiding the leaves.
- Once established, these plants will self seed for many years.
- Forget Me Not stands for remembrance but, in flower language, it’s also said to be a symbol of true love.
