ColletteRedman is talking about growing Chilli, Cucumber, Herbs, Parsnip, Tomato, Zucchini from Manawatu-Wanganui

Garden ready!

All I really need to say is I love my greenhouse. The growth has been fantastic and I am so happy. The CUCUMBERS and TOMATOES have done really well as well as the BASIL and we have been eating from them already.

So far the CUCUMBERS in the baskets have done extremely well, they get watered twice a day and fed a liquid feed once a week. You can see in the one photo there is 4 large cucumbers hanging down and I had already picked 2 the day before. Next year I will choose a more compact cucumber for my baskets.

The CAPSICUMS are starting to form and the EGGPLANT and CHILLIES are flowering.

The only thing I have been a little dissapointed with is the ZUCCHINI, it was planted very early in the season and has grown really well except for the fact that I have still not had a single ZUCCHINI from the plant. Lots of little fruits formed and then just shriveled and died, maybe 10-15 already. I have now started hand pollinating them as I think they were just not getting pollinated. Also my ZUCCHINI plants planted outside in post are basically the same size as the one in the greenhouse with lots of fruit and they were planted weeks later.  Dont know if I will do ZUCCHINI in the greenhouse again of maybe get a hybrid that doesnt need polination.

Today was a good day to spray the ZUCCHINIS, TOMATOES and PUMPKINS with YATES LIQUID COPPER fungicide.  I removed lots of the leaves yesterday so the plants are nice and open and less leaves to spray. Remember the disease is already in the plant before symptoms show so better to spray early.

All and all the greenhouse was a great success.
