Lovage has similar uses to celery and a similar flavour. You can use it in soups and stews, while the young leaves can be used in salads. Grows well as a companion plant for other herbs and vegies.


How to grow lovage in a garden

  1. Choose a sunny position with well drained soil. Add some Yates Thrive Natural Blood & Bone with Seaweed to add nutrients in to the soil. Water in well. Plants need to be well mulched to keep them moist. 
  2. Plant seeds directly into the soil making sure they are well spaced, cover lightly with Yates Seed Raising Mix and water regularly. 
  3. Once seeds have emerged feed with a liquid fertiliser like Yates Thrive Natural Fish Seaweed+ Plant Food Concentrate.
  4.  Harvest new leaves before flowering, will die down in winter.
     

 

How to grow lovage in a pot

  1. To grow in a pot, the pot needs to be 300 mm wide and deep. Choose a sunny position in spring, but will grow in half the days’ shade in summer. Use a good quality potting mix like Yates Premium Potting Mix. Water well.
  2. Sow seed direct and space well. Keep seedlings covered with Yates Black Magic Seed Raising Mix and water well.
  3. Once seedlings emerge fertilise with Yates Thrive Natural Fish Seaweed+ Plant Food Concentrate.
  4. Make sure you keep the soil moist. 
  5. Harvest new leaves when they appear. Harvest for storage before flowering.
